My Stolen Planet unfolds through the personal reflections of Farah, an Iranian filmmaker born during the 1979 Islamic Revolution. She captures fleeting moments of happiness and rebellion in her everyday existence under a repressive regime. Farah also collects 8mm footage from strangers, exploring the loss of memory and history. Her project becomes personal when she connects with Leyla, an Iranian professor who fled the revolution, giving a face to one of her anonymous archives. Farah’s mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s intensifies her fight against forgetting, and the 2022 Women, Life, Freedom uprising becomes a pivotal moment in her journey of resistance and remembrance. With its diary-style narrative, the film becomes a “homemade history,” capturing not just the intimate story of a woman grappling with memory and forgetting, but the shared resistance of a people fighting for freedom.
